Withstanding the shatter of Origins

This work is based on a stay the artist had fall 2008 in an abandoned office building in the outskirts of Amsterdam.
During several solely months in the building stripped from all its interior finesses and former function, exercises were started to cope with the emptiness and size. This lead to observation of the man-made, and how the man-made started to live only when meeting with nature (the wind howling in the ventilation system, the shadows moving as sun and clouds passed by, the lighting conductors on the roof quivering with the wind). The most interesting part was however how the isolated person encountered the building, searching for unseen energies and the potential of movement. We humans always strive to find meaning in our surroundings, and when meaning is lacking, we tend to create the missing connection. Bakketun´s inventions and researches often serve this purpose.

The installation consists of video, sound and kinetic sculpture mainly made from liquid rubber and found objects. Natural forces such as wind, light, temperature and plants serve as movement triggers.
